Metalsmith Basics is designed for jewelry artists who have little or no prior metals experience. Learn to saw your own custom metal shapes, file , pierce, texture, stamp, finish, patina. Time permitting, we will do a soldering demo but soldering is not taught in this intro class. This is a technique class providing time and practice to learn many different hand tool skills essential to metalsmithing. This is a techniques workshop, however most students complete a pendant project during class time . MAXIMUM 4 students per class. Minimum age 14.
This class qualifies students to do open studio and rent bench space. Students interested in hands on soldering experience should take Soldering 101 foundation class then Soldering Boot Camp.
Students bring safety glasses (or purchase from the studio $5), wear closed toe shoes, not sandals.
Prerequisite: none, this is beginner level but those with jewelry design experience will advance their skill level and introduce options to their designs
